First of all, have you down-loaded data.txt? It stores data. Make back-up copy of data.txt and then you starts administrative work. You can access the administrative page from a browser by calling your cgi's url such as http://your_provider/your_directory/bbs.cgi.

This is the webmaster's administrative page.

DoubleMessageBoard

Articles on this board are examples. The message posted by a guest is organized according to the formula. In this case:

     1) $gname or $data{'name'} for the name of the guest

     2) $data{'email'} for the mail address which is hidden at $gname

     3) $posted for the time CGI received the message

     4) $data{'title'} for the title of the comments

Temporary while you are working on the administrative page, a guest can not post an article to the board. And if the administrative work is interrupted, a guest can not write an article on the board 15 minutes. The duration can be changed from basic set up. Have it long enough for the admin work but not too long. You go to the administrative page only after you have determined the articles to be deleted - so that the admin work can be done quick. Further, even if you find everything is ok, better not quit the operation arbitrarily. Click the ok button (the default is "All OK" but you can change it). Otherwise temp.dat which is used to block new messages will be left there 15 minutes.

If you see an error message "file temp.dat can not be created..." or like after the password, most probably somebody is writing on Board. It wouldn't take minutes. If you try the admin page again or reload it, you will see the lock file gone (and a new message has been added on the board).

Rarely but you may meet a lock file left by a mistake. It will be automatically removed after the preset time (15 minutes by default). Or you can delete it from FTP if you are in a hurry.

If you are from a pubic internet terminal or a shared computer, clear the cache after the operation so that the password will be cleared too. The cache may do other odd thing. If you going to repeat the maintenance work, you may not see the latest data. You are seeing the cached data - press reload button.

If you have already made an archive, you have a link to the archive on the MessageBoard. The cgi cannot change an archive already created. If you want to delete or edit an archive page after you made it, use FTP.
